Arts Scholarship Programme
Arts Scholarship Programme
This programme has been developed to support gifted and talented students in the Arts. The programme is a three year course opened to students in Year 7 and 8. By the end of Year 9 students would be expected to take a GCSE/BTEC in the Performing Arts or Music. Throughout the course students will also be taking graded exams in Music Theory, their chosen musical instrument and in Drama. The instrumental lessons will be taught by staff from the Performing Arts Faculty and the Merton Music Foundation. Students will also be given opportunities to take part in Dance workshops which will be funded by the Specialist Arts College fund. They follow a normal curriculum, modified to allow them time for this programme. This allows them when the time comes, the opportunity of choosing a career in the Arts.
Aims:
-
To meet the needs of a cohort of Gifted and Talented Arts students.
-
To raise the attainment across the Arts.
-
To provide students with an intense two year programme following the National Curriculum
-
To focus on skills development in the ARTS disciplines.
We have a good track record in helping Performing Arts students gain places in colleges or universities, but are just as proud of those who prefer alternatives. A qualification in any of the Performing Arts subjects can lead to a wide variety of jobs, including orchestral playing or teaching, publishing, broadcasting, recording, technology, arts administration and retailing. The 'Performing Arts industry' has grown spectacularly over the last 30 years.
